The months of summer 2021 bring a new level of uncertainty about how we can continue the important human connection which was enjoyed by Rotary over the years. While the adage of 'hands in face space' is sure to remain a part of our daily practice, it's evident that trust is growing and face-to-face reconnections are being made. Rotary is changing. We are still uncertain about how our service to humanity is going to incorporate the highly appreciated human connection which Rotary Members enjoyed during the earlier time. It is clear, however that the hand-to-face ritual is going to remain the norm for Rotary. However, Rotary is changing. Rotary is a community which fosters lasting friendships. This has inspired us to improve our technological methods. We maintain our business on the internet, while introducing a new social and service activity. To create an exciting new future, we've embraced this opportunity and combined them with some of our most successful pre-pandemic behaviors. It was encouraging to learn that 75 percent of Rotary clubs intend to keep their "business like usual" actions. In the summer months there have been a lot of Rotary club members have been seen in public focusing on various tasks, such as beach and river clean-ups, litter removal and beach cleanups. I'm equally pleased of the fact that the Rotary Support Centre staff continues to offer valuable tools that help promote these many projects as well as ensure that the infrastructure is maintained to keep our members and public secure; compliance and insurance are crucial. Volunteering with the help of Rotary creates lasting friendships built on the shared experience of giving time for community gain. It's amazing to observe how members of our club have come up with innovative ways to solve certain of the most challenging challenges. I'm grateful for the fact that Rotary offered me the opportunity to join in 2002. Like so many Rotary members, it has given me an extremely reliable community of fellow members with whom genuine relationships have grown over the past twenty years.
